Health is a dynamic, changing state of well-being, which includes physical, mental, sociological, and cultural factors of both individual members and the whole family system (Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, Tabacco, Hanson, 2015, p. 5). The Health and well-being of individuals and families are important in order to attain a healthy lifestyle. Community health promotion allows nurses to work with individuals, families, and groups from diverse cultures, traditions and languages to teach health-seeking behaviors (Stamler Yiu, 2012). Health promotion engulfs preventing, maintaining, strengthening and improving each person’s health; by allowing them to learn ways to take an active part in self-care through education. The purpose of this paper is to discuss community health nursing, and how it fosters nursing practice through the experience gained from analyzing two scenarios from the Aberhart Center Tuberculosis Clinic. The CARNA competencies will be applied to the experiences. Community Health Nursing Community health nursing is a continuum of care from health promotion and prevention to treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care (Canadian Nurses Association [CNA], 2010).
