Teen Years free essay sample
The teen years are a troublesome time for both teenagers and parents. These years are filled with worry and fear, mostly fear of the unknown. Parents are afraid of losing control over their children and teenagers are trying to find their own way in in life and concerned about what their future is going to be. Parents can ease the way of their child into maturity if they go back in their own minds to the time when they were adolescents and remember the struggles they had and then try to adjust their thinking to the world that has changed since then. Three things that I think parents should work on are: let their children be their own individuals, give them what they ask for, and not keep track of every move their child makes. Parents shouldnââ¬â¢t try to chisel their child into what they think they should be. Instead, they should allow their child to discover their own identity, individuality, and style. We will write a custom essay sample on Teen Years or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page If parents donââ¬â¢t allow their child to discover their own identity, you will see your kids become an exact reflection of yourselves and has no views or thoughts of their own. Letââ¬â¢s say a parent only allow to play football but their true love is actually cross country, by not letting their child play the sport they love they are turning their child into the exact replica of themselves. One of the keys of your teenagerââ¬â¢s happiness is to get them whatever they ask for. The person who came up with the idea that spoiling your children is a bad thingwell, they were greatly mistaken. If you want to be a ââ¬Å"coolâ⬠parent, or if you want your children to like you, get them what they ask for. If you keep giving your children anything they want, they will be running back for more showing their thankfulness. If your daughter absolutely needs that eighty dollars for the adorable dress that she saw at the mall the other day, or your son needs five hundred dollars for the gaming system he wants, giving these large sums of money to your children will make them happy, and it will also teach them to be individuals. Spoiling your kids will definitely teach them about the importance of the things they have so that when they become adults, they will make their own living and be a good role model for their own children. Another very important lesson of good parenting is making sure you are not keeping track of everything that is going on in your childââ¬â¢s life. Before allowing your kids to go out, donââ¬â¢t irritate them by asking 10,000 questions. You need to avoid the questions such as ââ¬Å"Where are you going? What are you doing? Who are you going with? What time will you be home? â⬠By not asking lots of questions, you will help build trust between you and your child. If your child says he wants to go hang out with his or her friends the parents should not ask their child who they are hanging out with, where they are going and what they are going to do. By doing this it helps the child build trust with the parent. Always remember the three most important things when parenting your children. Let them be their own individuals, give them what they ask for, and do not keep track of every move your child makes. If you follow the advice I have given you, you will have a better relationship with your teenage child and will avoid some of the pitfalls that other parents fall into. You will find that there is less tension between you and your child and your home will be far more peaceful and tranquil.
